I worked with incarcerated women at a non-profit and most of these women had years and years of childhood trauma and I had noticed the majority of them had issues with learning and retaining new information. We found those with the most trauma had the hardest time with memory, more so than those who used substances. There is so much painful truth to everything you just wrote about.
